Trump: Musks New Political Party Could Work in Our Favor

U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Elon Musk’s initiative to launch a new political party might ultimately benefit his campaign, noting that third-party movements have historically played to his advantage.
Responding to a question during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump stated, “I think this will work in our favor. It probably will. Third parties have always helped me.”
Musk, who previously served voluntarily as head of the U.S. Office for Government Efficiency (DOGE), resigned recently amid rising tensions with Trump, according to American media reports. The reports highlighted growing disagreements between the two in recent weeks, including over conflicting business interests.
The rift became public on June 5, when Musk posted on his platform X that Trump wouldn’t have won the 2024 election without his support. He also expressed support for another impeachment attempt and criticized new tariffs and legislation introduced by Trump. In response, Trump called Musk “crazy” and accused him of negligence during his time overseeing DOGE.
On July 5, Musk announced plans to form a new political party called “America,” following a poll he conducted on X in which over 1.2 million users participated. Of those, 65.4% voted in favor of creating the new party. The next day, Musk filed a formal request with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to register the party, declaring its mission to be “restoring freedom".
