Gulf States on Alert Over Nuclear Threat Amid Iran-Israel Escalation

الإثنين 16 يونيو 2025 10:16 مـ 20 ذو الحجة 1446 هـ

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi announced that GCC member states have taken immediate precautionary measures by activating the Council’s Emergency Management Center to monitor any potential radiological or environmental indicators, in full coordination with the relevant authorities in each member state. He confirmed that all technical indicators remain within safe levels so far, but a state of full alert continues to ensure maximum readiness amid growing military tensions between Israel and Iran.

These measures were implemented following an extraordinary virtual meeting held by the GCC foreign ministers on Monday to discuss the rapidly evolving situation in the region. The ministers called for an immediate cessation of hostilities between Israel and Iran, warning that continued escalation could push the region into a broader conflict that would be difficult to contain or predict.

Albudaiwi warned that the current escalation could have severe consequences for regional infrastructure and the environment, especially if nuclear facilities are targeted. He noted the potential global fallout on supply chains, trade routes, energy markets, and the safety of strategic waterways.

He added that the Gulf states, recognizing the gravity of the situation, have responded swiftly by closely monitoring technical indicators, activating early warning systems, and issuing technical reports and public updates as data becomes available.

The Secretary-General stressed that GCC countries are closely following the unfolding Israel-Iran conflict. He noted that all member states condemned the recent Israeli attack on Iran, viewing it as a dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and stability.

The Council also urged a resumption of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington, describing diplomacy as the most effective path to defusing tensions and avoiding a broader and potentially uncontrollable confrontation.

On Friday, June 13, Israel launched military operations targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, including the Natanz complex. Iran has denied any radioactive leakage from the targeted sites.
