Trump: Israeli Strike on Iran ”Excellent” More Attacks Expected

الجمعة 13 يونيو 2025 06:34 مـ 17 ذو الحجة 1446 هـ

U.S. President Donald Trump described Israel’s strike on Iran as “excellent”, telling ABC News that “more attacks are on the way.” He added: “We gave them a chance, and they didn’t take it… They were hit hard, very hard… and there’s more to come—a lot more.” When asked whether the United States was involved in the attack, Trump replied: “I don’t want to comment on that.”

In another interview with CNN, Trump emphasized that the United States “clearly supports Israel,” adding: “We supported Israel like never before,” and described last night’s Israeli strikes on Iran as “highly successful.” He called on Tehran to come to the negotiating table “to reach a deal before it’s too late.”

The Financial Times, citing Israeli military officials, reported that the attack was prompted by Iran nearing the development of a nuclear bomb. The New York Times quoted Israeli sources saying the strike had been in planning for years, based on detailed intelligence about nuclear and military sites, as well as Iranian scientists and senior officials’ movements.

Commenting on the economic impact of the attack, Trump told the Wall Street Journal that Israel’s strike would have “a tremendous effect on markets,” as an Iranian nuclear weapon would have “threatened humanity.”

On the Iranian side, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian sent a letter to the UN Security Council, warning that “Israel will deeply regret its reckless aggression and grave miscalculation.” He stressed that Iran would respond “firmly and proportionately to Israel’s unlawful and cowardly acts.” He warned that failure to respond would only embolden Israel and lead to further chaos, calling on the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to condemn what he described as an act that “crossed all red lines.”

What happened early Friday morning?

In an unprecedented escalation, Israel launched a wide-scale military operation against strategic targets inside Iran at dawn on Friday, June 12, 2025—the most direct confrontation between the two countries in decades. The operation, dubbed “Rising Lion,” targeted nuclear facilities, military bases, and leadership compounds, causing significant damage to Iran’s infrastructure, military leadership, and scientific personnel.

According to Israeli military sources, over 200 Israeli aircraft participated in the attack, deploying around 300 precision-guided bombs, missiles, and explosive-laden drones. The strikes hit highly sensitive sites such as the Natanz and Fordow nuclear facilities, Parchin airbases, air defense systems, and ballistic missile infrastructure.

The Israeli military confirmed that the operation targeted “Iran’s surface-to-surface missile network,” stating that the strikes were based on “accurate intelligence.” Israel announced that the campaign is part of a “systematic and phased plan” aimed at achieving its long-term strategic objectives.

In response, Iran confirmed the deaths of several top military leaders, including IRGC Commander Major General Hossein Salami and Armed Forces Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri. Several prominent nuclear scientists were also reportedly killed—an immense blow to Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran has vowed a “broad and painful retaliation,” with harsh rhetoric from its top military officials. Regional and international figures have warned of the risk of a wider war. Israel, meanwhile, has urged its citizens abroad to exercise caution and has closed its embassies worldwide in anticipation of possible retaliatory attacks.

This Israeli operation has opened a new chapter of direct confrontation, triggering swift military and diplomatic movements. An imminent Iranian response is widely expected, potentially reshaping the regional balance. The unfolding crisis is likely to dominate headlines and analysis in the coming days as the world watches closely how Iran and the international community respond.
